The MacMurray-Gallo link might sound like an odd couple, but it really isn't. Film and TV star Fred MacMurray enjoyed the ranch as a getaway and working farm, and when his family put it up for sale in 1996 after his death they followed his orders to sell it to a "family" who would promise to keep the land in agriculture and his fence line intact. Gallo honored his wishes and now his daughter, Kate MacMurray, a former screenwriter, is spokesperson for the winery. Gallo planted vines and the winery was born in 2000. This Chardonnay is a rich expression of this celebrated appellation, with its elegant palate of citrus and lemon crème, underscored by hints of pear and green apple. Subtle notes of sweet caramel and vanilla from oak aging are framed by a luxurious mouthfeel

This Pinot Noir offers elegant flavors of cherry, pomegranate, lavender and spice. A blend of the finest lots from their Russian River Valley vineyards, this reserve Pinot wine fits together seamlessly with a rich texture, silky tannins and a well-integrated mouthfeel. All of the grapes were hand-harvested, with the majority kept cold to protect the delicate berries during destemming. All of the lots were cold soaked for up to five days and then fermented separately. The free-run lots that exhibited a plush, silky texture were selected for this Pinot Noir. Malolactic fermentation was completed in barrel and the wine was aged in oak for 9 months in a mix of new, second- and third-use French barrels. The Gallo Signature Series brings to life the enduring legacy of Ernest and Julio Gallo, and it celebrates its family’s vision for the future. After more than two decades as a winemaker, Gina Gallo embarked on a journey to tell the family’s story through a deeply personal collection of wines. With incomparable access to some of California's most sought-after William Hills Estate vineyards, Gina is able to tap into the diverse collection of estate vineyards to hand-select the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Blending the Cabernet with Petit Verdot grapes from Monte Rosso, the legendary mountaintop vineyard in Sonoma Valley, Gina made a robust, elegant wine to complement the Burgundy-style varietals in the Gallo Signature Series. The grapes remained in contact with the skins for approximately 15 -20 days to enhance flavor and color extraction. Following primary fermentation, the wine was racked into barrels for malolactic fermentation and aged in oak for 25 months. A vivid and complex wine, this wine displays flavors of currant, cassis, dark fruit, chocolate and cherry on the palate. Velvety tannins meld with hints of warm oak to create a long, supple finish. 92 points - Robert Parker, the Wine Advocate December 2013.
