A proprietary blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc takes its name from Ariadne, wife of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. Like its namesake, Clos Du Val’s 2009 Ariadne is forward, bright and elegant. Pale gold in color, the wine displays aromas of melon, fig and a hint of passion fruit with intense flavors of tropical fruit, guava, and citrus. Subtle oak tones make for a rich, creamy mouth feel, while firm acids consistent with the vintage keep the finish crisp and light. This wine is a blend of 65% Sémillon that is barrel fermented for 9 months in 20% new French oak, and 35% Sauvignon Blanc fermented in stainless steel all from vines that are more than 15 years old. Ariadne is a great accompaniment to light meals, shellfish and Asian cuisine or just on its own.

Lemon zest, lime, mint and chalk combine in pale layers, the oak is present in the structure of the wine without flavoring it overtly. Wine Enthusiast 90 pts Sept 2010 Buying Guide - A bit burly in tannins, with a dry, sandpapery mouthfeel. But that doesn't stop the blackberry, black cherry and currant fruit from shining through, or put a damper on the sweet, toasty oak notes. Doesn't feel like an ager, so the tannins are here to stay, but a good steak will wrestle them into submission. APPELLATION: Napa Valley COMPOSITION: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon; 7% Merlot; 6%; Cabernet Franc; and 3% Petit Verdot. AGING: 18 months in French oak barrels, 25% new barrels
